Joey Feldman and his Upcoming Collection called Cubism & Espresso is set to be Released on April 14th

The collection called CUBISM AND ESPRESSO is composed of eight curated unique artworks, a mix of contradictions - bright and moody, bold and soft, focused and calculated, chaotic and real, all with an essence of tongue-in-cheek humor. Created at a time of great personal loss and growth, as Feldman puts it, “Over the last year and a half or so, I was trying to take my time. Striving to work at the same pace as my mind which typically moves much faster - all to allow the paintings to grow in an organic and authentic way.”

The past two years have been unprecedented and unpredictable for so many of us, for Joey, it was a time of loss, reflection, and gratitude. It is clear in speaking to him he is incredibly humble and does not take for granted the immense privilege of being able to live his life as an artist. When speaking about his beginnings as a young aspiring artist with no formal education, he conveys gratitude to the mentors who inspired him and showed him the brotherhood of artistry. The first time he was utterly floored by a work of art, it was in the pages of a paperback novel illustrated by a man who would later become a dear mentor. The second time it was at the Getty Museum while viewing the work of Francis Bacon. He says he was so overcome by the art, “I had to sit down.” He refers to The Art Spirit by Robert Henri to explain that when he is painting in his studio, artists of the past and present are connected to him there. He feels the weight of this brotherhood and is committed in action and deeds to do his part as an artist.

“It is in 100% of every brushstroke that gets put into it. I never want to forget where I came from,” he explains, “The way that I learned to draw really helped me with confidence. I've always liked using a pen more than a pencil. Ralph Steadman, a mentor of mine once said that when you have a pen it's like sudden death, you have to commit to that line. Look, in my relationships, I could never commit until I met my wife, but I could always commit to a line. The pen is loaded and ready to go. If mistakes happen along the way, that's just part of being surprised every day in creating my work. Learning to find the right path to get to my desired end result is part of the beauty of the process.”

Joey’s studio is filled with varied inspirations including artwork, monsters, and other objects and collectibles he finds enjoyable. “I’m just not the best version of myself if I don't come to the studio every morning.” He speaks fondly of his growing Godzilla figures collection that sits menacingly in the corner. He says his wife knows better than anyone that he must be in his studio every day, creating and painting. “I come here shut the door and paint.” Again, he speaks of his art and his creative process with the candor of a man who cannot believe his good fortune - that he is able to create art as a way of life.

We speak about his influences, Picasso, Bacon, Steadman, Condo, his illustrator background, and how it all comes together in his work. He expresses a fondness for the abstract expressionists from the New York school who favored improvisation and spurned formal conventions. Feldman describes his works as a type of recall-ism, “Cubism, comic books, the urgency of social media. We live in a time where it is constantly in your face and it can make you dizzy. My work has no ending or beginning in terms of composition and this represents my style. Different moments all captured at once, my interpretation of modern-day cubism.” He shares that he hopes viewers of his artwork feel connected to him as if they are with him at an event or at a series of multiple events - all at the same time.

JOEY FELDMAN | SILVER LININGS | CUBISM AND ESPRESSO

The exclusive PAC collection, CUBISM AND ESPRESSO, is a capsule of moments and thoughts from the past two years. Darkness, humor, sweetness, and Feldman’s unmistakable bold lines are at the center. We have hints of uncharacteristic softness with certain colors inspired by his loving relationship with his wife Mo yet a repetitive theme of abstract expressionism. Other characteristics are an honest expression of frustration, anger, and reflection. Developing patience has allowed him to work on each painting for the appropriate amount of time needed to create the finished product. Tending to the needs of each work in his studio while remembering not to put his final mark on each work until he was undeniably finished.

The collection of only 8 one-of-a-kind paintings was created using a mix of various mediums such as Venetian plaster, pastel, oil, acrylic, metallic pigments, and ink, all presented on either archival clay board, canvas, or paper.

Preview the entire collection early by requesting advanced access.

Arguably at the center of the collection is a large black and white painting called The Last Word, which Feldman completed in 2021. Other notable paintings in this collection include Silver Linings, Realm of Inner Feelings, and The Girl in the Moonlight.

Private art Consulting is proud to make this collection available starting April 14th, 2022.
