REALM OF INNER FEELING

As part of an experimental series over the course of a year and a half or so, a collection of canvases were set up in the studio and tended to every now and then.

I chose to let the process take control, like time and exploration of material would lead the way. I fell in love with this particular color which ignites happiness, excitement, energy, stamina and enthusiasm.

LET IT GO

This work addresses all of the excesses we collect in life and aims to propose the idea that we do not really need much of anything. While creating this work, collecting and buying things for all was at an all-time high.

You can see a profile of an orange head surrounded by things. This is also about the idea of overindulgences, what's truly important, and learning how to accept and give love.

SILVER LININGS

This work represents pure realization. No matter what happens, even during difficult times, as long as we have our health and the little things, things can get better and miracles are everywhere.

If we remain positive and open we may notice these moments are right in front of our faces looking back at us. The use of metallic pigment in this case refers to that glimmer of hope, that sparkle evident in our day-to-day dealings.

GYPSY GIRL

After watching an old horror film I took note of one particular character and for some reason, I was reminded of a family I grew up near back east that had a fortune-telling business. The family and their little girl, in particular, referred to themselves as gypsies.

The interpretation of this memory focuses on the ideology of cubism and capturing multiple moments, places, and ideas all at the same time.

THE LAST WORD

The story behind this painting is a bit tongue-in-cheek and pays homage to all of those who struggle with emotional intelligence and the ability to read a room. Feldman describes the initial concept behind this work as the aftermath of feeling as though he was locked in a spiritual prison and all he wanted to do was break free.

After a tumultuous 2020, while struggling to grieve, after receiving unsolicited advice, it felt like the last straw. Having just lost family members and close friends who were dear to him, this painting is about healing, personal space and emotional freedom.

EVALUATE

This painting is about expressing feelings of an uncharacteristic softness. The color is very different for me and reminds me of times in which I feel great balance and harmony.

These instances are often inspired by my wife. Sometimes she is doing yoga poses behind me and I take notice of her strength and calmness.

THE GIRL IN THE MOONLIGHT

This painting is very special to me because it was inspired by my wife and the bed we share. She often wakes up in the middle of the night and on one particular night, I saw her wide awake. I thought she was so beautiful and then I thought about the work of Picasso.

It could have been the glow of the moonlight shining in through our bedroom window or perhaps it was the light coming off from her electronic device, who can be too sure after all. This painting represents what I saw and I’ll never forget this visual.

 AMBITIOUS

This is a self-portrait. Feldman is an Aries and orange is a color synonymous with Feldman’s signature style. It’s the color of creativity, one that expresses what he felt as he worked on this painting. He suggests he was going through an immense personal storm and had to put on a really big show.

It was all about keeping the momentum going and getting out the added stress and energy. The use of expressionist splatters is about letting go of frustration and resentment. Once on the canvas, it's out, sort of like a well-deserved cleanse.
